DigitalOcean is one of the fastest growing cloud hosting companies in the world, focused on simplicity and scale. Today we will learn how to install and configure WordPress on DigitalOcean.
Why we love DigitalOcean
DigitalOcean Openend its doors in 2011, and soon it became one of the largest cloud hosting providers, with more than one million users. DigitalOcean’s servers are known as Droplets, the smallest unit of a cloud server you can buy for $ 5 / month. You can try DigitalOcean for free. They offer a $100 test account

DigitalOcean’s community approach to winning customers
DigitalOcean has several tutorials on almost any operating system, any software and any topic (related to hosting)! The best part: it is meticulously tested on your droplets to make sure it works on your droplet too!
In addition to the tutorials, it also has active question and answer forums and interesting community projects.
With DigitalOcean, you can dynamically change the size of your drop. Remember that we talked about it in Introduction to cloud computing with WordPress? Whenever you need a little extra juice, resize a drop as easily as turning a button to increase the volume.
Install WordPress on DigitalOcean
Prerequisite: After registering with DigitalOcean, it is necessary to update your contact information and transfer some money (about US $ 5) to your DigitalOcean account to create your first drop and activate the $100 offer. Think of it as a prepaid phone. You can use PayPal or credit card to top up your account. Now we are ready to create our WordPress drop.
Organization of DigitalOcean user accounts: what are projects?
Projects are a basic unit of the organization in your DigitalOcean account. Each project can have several discards and other resources (such as load balancers and object storage) that DigitalOcean has to offer. A single DigitalOcean account can have multiple projects.
We started by creating our first DigitalOcean project. Select a name, description, objective and project environment. An environment can be development, preparation or production. For our tutorial, we chose the options shown in the screenshot above.
As DigitalOcean is a developer-centric cloud hosting platform, they have these additional options that help developers a lot in organizing their projects.
How to create a WordPress drop in DigitalOcean
After creating a project, you can now create a droplet.
Note: You can also add backups to your Droplet. However, this is not important for us, as this is a tutorial. In addition, this should not be confused with WordPress backups. A suspended backup is an automatic backup at the system level, which means that they copy everything to the operating system (and not just WordPress).
DigitalOcean drops can be implemented in 8 different data centers. Since I am located in Brazil, I have selected New York. It is optional to select additional options (such as private network, IPv6, etc.) and an SSH key. As we are here to install only WordPress, these functions will not be necessary. However, feel free to try them out on your DigitalOcean account.
As you can see, the default project, that is, WPExplorer is selected automatically. Enter a host name (this must be remembered internally) and click Create to start creating your drop.
After clicking on Create Droplet your WordPress is ready, and you will receive an email with the login data for your own WordPress installation.
